Just getting into movie collecting?  Where should you begin?

If you're thinking about getting into serious movie merchandise collecting you should decide how you're going to go about it before you start buying.

Most people specialize in one area of film or TV.  It could be a certain genre that you like, horror monsters and science fiction are very popular and you will find a lot of collectibles there.  Or you could go after your favorite television show, Star Trek is the hands down favorite here but you'll find X-Files, The Muppet Show, Simpsons, Buffy collectibles and more to choose from.

There are quite a lot of people who specialize in collecting just Sci-Fi Weapons or Sci-Fi ships. This is a unique way to go about collecting and to some degree most serious collectors give their collections some sort of specialization along these lines.  This is a pretty highly specialized and competitive area though and you may want to start on an easier road.

You can also start with replicas from your favorite movie.  You'll find more memorabilia, props and figures from the Lord of the Rings than you'll know what to do with.  This is a great way to get into collecting.  Start with something you really love and branch out into the shrewd film collecting world with experience and a collection that makes you happy.

This is a way to hold on to that special movie or television show like few else in the world ever can.  When you go for merchandise from a single production you will gain insight into the nature of the production and the nature of the personalities involved like no other collecting endeavor can ever bring you. 

A movie statues can be made of resin or rubber.  They depict the defining moments of heros and villians, that point in the movie that can transform worlds and influence the political, social, and even sense of purpose of millions around the world.  As we look back on life Captain Kirk with his phaser and Luke Skywalker with his lightsaber have proven to be heros of many growing up.

To hold a piece of a living icon in your hand, and behold the heros and villians that helped forge us when we were younger is truly powerful.  Collecting movie memorabilia is a wonderful way to hold on to our past.
